PSPCA

Our headquarters Adoption Center, a state-of-the-art facility located at 350 E. Erie Avenue in Philadelphia, was modeled after a greenhouse. This means glass-block kennels, heated floors, air conditioning and glorious amounts of natural light. Consider it the pet version of rooms with floor-to-ceiling windows and skylights.

Our Philadelphia Adoption Hours are: Monday - Friday, 1 P.M. until 8 P.M. and Saturday - Sunday, 10 A.M. until 4 P.M. The adoption center is closed on all major holidays. We're not sure how the pets celebrate when we're gone. But we hope it's not like teenagers on a parents-out-of-town weekend.

To adopt from the PSPCA you will need one form of identification which includes your name and current address. And, if you rent, landlord approval is required. As an added benefit, PSPCA is giving new pet parents a ShelterCare Gift insurance policy. The ShelterCare Gift provides accident and illness protection for 30 days starting on the date of your adoption. After the 30 days, you can continue your insurance policy at your own expense by contacting ShelterCare at 1-866-375-PETS or by visiting their
website.

The adoption fee is $75 and we accept cash, Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover and debit cards. (Checks are not accepted, sorry.) All adoptions include spay/neuter surgery, microchip, Keystone ID tag, collar, leash (dogs), carrier (cats), three weeks of free clinic care, and all necessary vaccinations through the first year.

More about fostering and adoption through PSPCA
from
Ray Little

I am interested in foster homes that wish to continue fostering and possibly showing their foster "kids" to potential adopters.  I'll be happy to consider Foster to Adopt situations for special cases too.

If anyone wants to do this however it does require an understanding that they need to follow our policies which are outlined in our foster/rescue brochure PSPCA rescue/foster Brochure Page 1, Page 2, Adoption Application.  The application can be filled out in person when I meet the foster candidate.  References should include a veterinarian who can attest to the candidate's current pets being up-to-date on inoculations.  Foster care must be able to provide time and care as required by the animal they select and be able to keep foster animals in a safe and separate place from their resident pets since fosters could be harboring illnesses such as bordatella which can easily be transmitted to the resident pets and we cannot afford to pay for the treatment of those that may become sick.  The are many zoonotic deaseases that can cross over species as well.  Although we do as much as possible to screen the animals in our care there is no way to guarantee health given the sketchy history and the exposure of these pets to so many other pets in our shelters.  Training is available and access to my cell phone for emergencies. The PSPCA provides supplies but this would not include foster to adopt situations,  except for medications that would be required if the animal were not being placed in foster.  The adoption application must also be approved at the time that the animal is picked up and the adoption must be finalized at the time designated by the foster care director(not to exceed two weeks)  Any cost incurred for medical services or supplies not provided in the adoption contract or by by any agency other than the PSPCA is not reimbursable even if the adoption does not occur. Please pass this on to anyone who is intrested and ask them to call me to set something up.  Thanks again for your hard work and for spreading the word about the PSPCA's foster program
