Meeting Sept. 15, 2007 - Puppy Mill Awareness Day

How was Puppy Mill Awareness day?

Well, after stopping about a half a dozen times asking for directions, despite our google map and new gps equipped with turn by turn directions by a super annoying robotic female voice, we finally made it.  And we got a front row parking spot for our car and our table! It Turned out the address was wrong on the directions through the awareness day website.  Oh well.  Fortunately for Deb, she didn't use those directions and was there waiting for Karen, Ed and I when we arrived.

There were plenty of vendors, not so many shoppers.  It was super windy and everyone was chasing their products around the field.  We didn't really sell anything, though ed talked a few people into donating a dollar to give Doyle a treat and we spread the word about Dog Scouts.

We were planning on filming our DSA certification requirements, but your silly troop leader neglected to bring the video taping checklist. Bummer.

We listened to some pretty extreme speakers, talking about setting houses on fire and something about shooting people. We were anxious for lunch, but it turned out that wouldn't be served until after all the speakers and then the march (which we weren't aware of).  You can kind of see the marchers with their signs behind us in the picture above as we were packing up to leave.

It was a good time with good company.  Before leaving, we came up with the following list.

For the next event we'll try to have the following:

  • containers for our fundraising items

  • a banner with our logo

  • a brochure holder

  • FOOD to sell for dogs and people (the people with food had stuffed donation jars!)

  • props and games for tricks and other enticing activities

  • secure and stable donation container

  • price tags and/or price lis

  • a tri-fold board or a-frame sign for information and/or pictures

  • and potentially a raffle of some sort

If anyone can help with any of the supplies, let me know.

We're also going to start getting together on weekends, whenever possible, to work on the DSA certification requirements.  It's a great opportunity for all of us to learn some new things and come up with new ideas for events and activities.

Please start emailing me with some potential dates and we'll start scheduling classes.

Kelly
