Thanks for attending everyone!  I had a really great time and it was wonderful meeting everyone!

Now that you've gotten a feel for what Dog Scouts is and if you're interested in hanging with our troop, please sign up for the national membership here.  It's only $30 for the family/year (unless you're kind enough to make a larger contribution) and you're covered by DSA insurance whenever you're with the troop.  click here for the membership application.  Please email me after you sign up so I can start making a member page for you in our "meet the members" pages. Check out the members pages layout and send me you're content, interests and pictures when you get a chance.  It'll be a good way to get to know each other and I'll also be adding a field for the activities that we're all interested in so we can get together.  I have that info from everyone who attended the meeting.

If you haven't signed up for our troop yahoo email group yet, please click here.  I'll soon just be using that one when I email the whole troop, but you're always welcome to use my personal email address too.

Susan, I hope you're feeling better.  Sylvia, I hope your dog's doing better and I look forward to meeting you next time.  Kristine, thanks for driving all that way with sweet little dusty and bringing all those fundraiser toys, that was great!

Since we're so far from each other,  I'm actively trying to recruit troop leaders.  Let me know if you've got anyone in mind so you don't have to drive so far and we can reach more people.  I'll do whatever I can to help get it up and running so the new troop leader just has to start getting their local dog people to hang out together, learn some things, and have some fun.

Check out our new website!  www.dogscoutspa.org.  It's still under construction (probably always will be) quality assurance assistance would be appreciated.  Please let me know if you've got ideas or experience any issues with it (especially mac users!)

Fundraising:

Please email me with fundraiser and event ideas.  I'd like to auction off a bunch of old records to raise money.  If anyone knows anything about old records or is interested in helping me catalog or sell them, please let me know.  I've got 3 milk crates full!  I'm also making fleece tuggers, Deb's making bandanas and Kristine gave us a ton of new toys to auction off.

Future Group Meetings:

I'm open to getting together on the regular, every couple weeks or more depending on the interest.  We can meet at the Lansdale Bark Park if there's no other location planned.  I'm going to hold DSA certification classes at my house in Hatfield whatever weekend days I have open, so email me with your availability if you're interested and we'll plan some dates.

Next Saturday, September 8th, there's a lure coursing event.  Karen, Ed and I are thinking about going.  Anyone who's interested, let me know asap.  I'll post the info if you'd like to contact them directly too.  It's cheap, a great networking opportunity and we'll get a taste for how it works.  I'm interested to see if lure coursing and herding will satisfy my sophies chasing/herding instincts or encourage them.

Puppy Mill awareness day is Sat 9-15.  Everyone's welcome to join us at our booth where we'll try to earn some money, show off our tricks and start working on the DSA certification requirements. click here to view the event details page with directions

September 30th:
A woman from a canine aquatics place in jersey found us online and invited us to man a booth an event on the 30th, I haven't committed yet.
Let me know if you're interested.

From Cindy at Canine Aquatics:

Good Morning Kelly

I was searching for Canine Backpacks this morning and stumbled upon DSA.   I was unaware of such an organization.  So I decided to write.

Canine Aquatics & Fitness Center is a rehabilitation and performance training center for dogs.  We are located in Randolph,New Jersey.  On Sunday, September 30th, we will be hosting the AKC's 7th Annual Responsible Dog Ownership Day.

We have many activities planned for the day including the brand new Morris County Emergency Preparedness & Evacuation Trailer for Pet Owners.  I thought this might be an opportunity to spread the word about your organization. We hope to have many young families attend.  In addition to the RDO, the third thursday of each month we give a free seminar in the area of pets and pet care.  This might be another ave. to explore. The first place to get the whole history behind the RDO is the Akc's webiste:  www.akc.org.  My website has just the highlights and a link to the akc.  www.rehabdog.com.  If one of your members could come down, set up a table with information.  That would be great.

If you have any questions or if this sounds of interest, we would love to have you here.  Please call us at 973-970-9112 M-S.

Sincerely,

Cindy Farbanish

Maria told me about the Super Pet Expo, I haven't committed yet since it's kind of costly.  For the time being, I'm pretty much only committing to free events at this point and plan to raise money for those type of things. Here's the info I've received on that:
